Dental Bridge

A transparent view of a jaw where a bridge is being placed over two teeth and the gap between them. If you have missing teeth, our dentist at Simonsen Dental has a solution to close that gap with artificial teeth; this is done by performing a dental bridge procedure. If you have one or more missing teeth, including your top or bottom teeth, a dental bridge may be the best solution for you. A bridge may be made up of two or more crowns for your teeth on the side of any gap, and may include one or more pontics (replacement teeth) in between.

Do I Need A Dental Bridge?

If you are missing teeth, your biting and chewing ability may suffer because your teeth work in conjunction with each other in order to function properly for your use. If you have a missing tooth, the teeth surrounding it may slowly move into the space.

When the teeth in your jaw move around it may cause pain, extra stress on your teeth and jaw, bite problems, chewing difficulties, and lack of confidence in your smile. You may have a missing tooth due to a congenital condition. If you have lost one tooth or more from tooth decay, gum disease, or an injury, a dental bridge may be the solution for you. If you have healthy teeth on either side of your missing ones you may be eligible for a dental bridge. Visit our office to find out the best treatment plan for you.

What Are The Alternatives To A Dental Bridge?

If you are wondering what the alternatives to dental bridges are, you may choose partial dentures. By choosing to have partial dentures you will choose a removable option with artificial teeth that can be taken out and cleaned. If you visit our office to discuss your options, we may also recommend a dental implant instead of a bridge.

What Kind Of Dental Bridge Will I Get?

If you choose to have a dental bridge procedure you should know that a traditional fixed bridge is the most common kind of dental bridge. If you receive this kind of bridge it may consist of two caps called crowns that may be connected by a false tooth called a pontic, which forms your bridge. Crowns cover your teeth and are very important because they keep your bridge in place. If you choose to receive a traditional bridge it may be made of porcelain, metal, or porcelain-fused-to-metal cemented into place. You may alternatively need a cantilever bridge if you only have teeth on one side of the gap. If you need an implant-supported bridge it may be the same as traditional bridges, but they may be held in place by implants.

What Is The Dental Bridge Procedure?

If you choose to have a dental bridge it will take two appointments. During your first appointment, our dentist will reshape your abutment teeth meaning the teeth that may be covered by a cap. After this, our dentist will take an impression or digital scan of your teeth that will be sent to a dental lab where your bridge may be made. During your next visit our dentist will be able to cement your bridge into place.
